KMA offers regional workshops to further professional development. All workshops are offered at a nominal fee. Several of our members take advantange of these wonderful opportunities to advance their professional skills.

Archeological Curation
Date: April 24, 2009

Preservation is fundamental to good public education
and research in archaeology. This workshop is designed
to assist participants in learning the best way to care for
archaeological objects and associated documents (such
as field notes, photographs and maps) so that these
irreplaceable collections may be available for generations
to come. The workshop will also discuss overall
management, collections and disaster preparedness
plans and will provide participants with examples of
loan agreements and gift forms.

Time in a Bottle:
Preservation in the Digital Age
Date: June 15, 2009
Time: 10 am - 4 pm
Location: Forsyth Library, FHSU
Hays, Kansas
Cost: $50 KMA Members
$65 Non-Members
Want to digitize your archives, but don’t have the
money or knowhow. Fort Hays State University’s
Forsyth Library is here to help with training and free use
of their equipment. Through brief lectures and hands-on
tutorials, learn how to create digital images and scans,
use metadata and develop copyright policies. Participants
are encouraged to bring items from their collections and
with the help of library faculty and staff, participants will
create their own digital files using the library’s equipment

Director’s Forum

Looking at the economic forecasts for 2009 does not
give one much optimism for the year ahead. Never fear
though, Kansas museums have always been resourceful
when it comes to stretching the almighty dollar. Together
we can navigate this economic storm and emerge even
stronger. With tips from outside experts and our
combined knowledge, we will brainstorm resources to
tap into during these struggling economic times.

Increasing Relevancy for Students, Teachers and Beyond

Would you like to increase your institution's value to your
community? Kansas museums can provide a wealth of
curriculum applications including social studies, history,
literacy, anthropology, and even math and science. This
session will explore ways to create opportunities to support
teachers and students by increasing relevancy to standard
curriculum. Learn how your collections and exhibits can
create connections for schools and throughout the
community from a career education coordinator.
